Gingerbread house

Every year I’m baking Gingerbread house. I guess this is my new Christmas tradition. Sometimes I even bake few of them and I give to my friends as a handmade gift 🙂

I use the same recipe as for cookies. Bake Gingerbread house from one portion (on one tray).  Then, wait until cookies are cooled down and you can start assembling the house using icing. For the base I use silver cake board and white marzipan. To decorate your house use candies, marshmallows, little cookie decorations, cinnamon sticks, mini pretzels – just use your imagination ❤

75g unsalted butter, diced

1 egg, beaten

275g plain flour, sifted

30 ml golden syrup

1 tsp baking powder

100g caster sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla extract or cinnamon or gingerbread spices

Place dry ingredients into a mixing bowl. Add butter and rub together with your fingertips. Make a hallow in the centre and pour beaten egg and golden syrup. Mix together until you have a ball of dough. Place the dough in a plastic bag and chill in the fridge for 30 min. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to 5 mm thick. Stamp out cookies using Christmas cutters. Lightly knead and re-roll the trimmings together again to use up all the dough. Place cookies on baking sheet and bake for 12-15 min in 170 C until lightly coloured.

Merry Christmas xx
