Quick Asparagus Tart

Asparagus is a springtime delicacy and homegrown appears in May and June. Luckily, it is available in supermarkets for most of the year. It is low in calories – only 17kcal in 100g and it provides essential nutrients.


What are benefits of asparagus?

  • good source of vitamin C and folate
  • useful source of potassium and vitamin E
  • contains prebiotic fibre that encourages ‘friendly’ gut bacteria

Any drawbacks?

  • contains purines that can cause  painful gout attacks; should be consumed in moderation


There are many lovely asparagus dishes. Today try quick, easy and tasty Asparagus Tart.


250 g puff pastry

bunch green asparagus


bacon cubes

pack of baby sweetcorn





Unfold the puff pastry on prepared baking sheet.  With a fork, pierce holes in the pastry. Snap off the pale woody ends of the asparagus. Rinse the asparagus under cold water, then dry them in the kitchen towels and place them on puff pastry. Add pieces of baby sweetcorn, bacon cubes and sliced mozzarella. Sprinkle tart with herbs, pepper and garlic granules. Bake in 190 – 200 C approx. 20 – 30 min. Remove baked tart from oven and let cool for 2 minutes. Slice and serve, sprinkled with Parmesan as desired.
